After a 1-1 drawn test series, South Africa will take on Pakistan in 5 ODI matches and two T20I matches in the coming weeks. Both sides have brought in some one day specialists, for what promises to be and exciting series.

AB de Villiers will take over the role of captain once again for the shorter format. The availability of Hashim Amla has yet to be confirmed, after going home for the birth of his second child. New arrivals in the squad will include Quinton de Kock, Ryan McLaren, David Miller and Wayne Parnell. Vernon Philander has also been added to the squad, playing his last ODI for South Africa back in 2007. There is also an injury cloud hanging over Dale Steyn, as it seems he will not be available to the first few matches. It will be interesting to see how Faf du Plessis copes with the pressure, after the ball tampering incident that marred the test series. He’s form with the bat has been poor of late, and he will most likely be playing for his spot in the side.

Pakistan always seem to find a way of performing better when it comes to the shorter versions of the game. The inspirational Shaid Afridi joins up with the squad again, so too the likes of Sohail Tanvir, Wahab Riaz. Two players left out of the test series, Mohammad Hafeez and Nasir Jamshed will also make their returns to the side. Pakistan have a very strong looking squad, with talent in all facets of the game. The leadership of Misbah-ul-Haq and the return of Umar Akmal will be the deciding factor in the 5 match ODI series.

The opening match will be played at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, which will also host the 5th and final match of the series.
