South Africa will still be without the services of Hashim Amla, a player whose ability and consistency they will miss dearly at the top of the order. His replacement at the top of the order Colin Ingram was dismissed without scoring in the opening match, he comes into the series with excellent domestic form behind his name, and will be looking to showcase his ability at the top of the order. The form of Faf du Plessis will be a huge worry for South Africa, he hasn’t got going in the test matches, and failed once again in the first ODI. This will perhaps leave the door open for Quinton de Kock to open the innings with Smith, moving Ingram lower down the order.

Pakistan’s top order can’t be faulted, except for the ability to convert a start. Shehzad, Hafeez, Misbah, Amin and Akmal all got to double figures, facing at least 20 balls, with only Shehzad scoring a half century. Had one of the top order batsman gone through with their effort, Pakistan would’ve been one up in the series. This will have been the focus during team meetings, to keep a cool head and use your start. The Pakistan spinners were on fire last time out, expect the likes of Ajmal, Hafeez and Aridi to once again torment the South African top order, who looked clueless against them. If they can replicate their performance, Pakistan will be halfway to winning the fixture to level the five match series.
